Investment in Northern Vietnam: Major Corporations Expand with $5.5 Billion in Funding

The industrial powerhouse in Vietnam, Bac Ninh Province, known for its thriving electronics and high-tech manufacturing sector, announced its development strategy on September 22, 2024. The province hosted an investment conference where provincial leaders shared plans to transform Bac Ninh into a centrally managed city by 2030. With an eye on the future, the province also outlined its goal of becoming a leading hub for high-tech industries and smart city development in Asia by 2050.
The investment conference saw the approval of 18 projects totaling $5.5 billion, underscoring Bac Ninh's attractiveness to global tech giants. Among the most notable investments:
Amkor Technology Vietnam secured a $1.07 billion approval for a semiconductor assembly and testing plant, cementing Bac Ninh’s status as a crucial player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
Foxconn, a major supplier for Apple, will inject $383.3 million into a new FCPV factory, further bolstering the province's electronics manufacturing capabilities.
Goertek, a key supplier of network and multimedia products, announced a $280 million investment in a new plant, diversifying Bac Ninh's tech portfolio.
Samsung Display, one of Bac Ninh’s longest-standing partners, signed a $1.8 billion memorandum to expand its production of screens and electronic components, reinforcing the province’s role as a central hub for Samsung’s global supply chain.
These strategic investments are not limited to high-tech industries. Aeon Mall Vietnam is set to build a $190 million shopping mall, signaling Bac Ninh’s efforts to balance industrial expansion with consumer-driven infrastructure and urbanization.
