Global semiconductor sales reached US$53.1 billion in August, up 20.6% year-on-year

Global semiconductors have grown for five consecutive months and hit a record high in August.
SIA accounts for 99% of the U.S. semiconductor industry and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip companies by revenue. The monthly sales released are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Organization (WSTS) and represent a three-month moving average.
John Neuffer, president and CEO of SIA, said that sales in the global semiconductor market continued to grow significantly in August, with total sales hitting a record high, monthly sales increasing for the fifth consecutive month, and the year-on-year sales increase was the largest since April 2022. Among them, the Americas region increased by 43.9% year-on-year, and monthly sales in all regions increased for the first time since October 2023. "
From a regional perspective, sales in the Americas increased by 43.9% year-on-year in August, China increased by 19.2% year-on-year, Asia Pacific/all other regions increased by 17.1% year-on-year, Japan increased by 2.0% year-on-year, while European sales decreased by 9.0%. However, in terms of month-on-month growth, the Americas, Japan, Europe, China and Asia Pacific and other regions all achieved positive growth, with growth rates of 4.3%, 2.5%, 2.4%, 1.7% and 1.5% respectively.
According to data from the Operation Monitoring and Coordination Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, China's integrated circuit output reached 284.5 billion units from January to August 2024, a year-on-year increase of 26.6%. China's semiconductor industry has performed particularly well against the backdrop of global recovery and has become one of the main driving forces of the global semiconductor market.
