Foxconn's 12.5 Trillion VND Factory in a Locality Will Produce 'Made in Vietnam' MacBooks and iPads

Published: 10.3.2024

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment's portal has published a report submitted by Fukang Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn Group, proposing the issuance of a Phase 2 environmental permit for the exhaust gas treatment system in the iPad and MacBook production line.

The report was submitted by Fukang Technology, and the environmental permit is specifically for the production lines located in the factory in Bac Giang province. Foxconn is widely known as a major manufacturing partner for tech giant Apple. Recently, the Taiwan-based company has consistently announced investment plans in various localities across Vietnam.

According to the report, some of the iPad and MacBook assembly lines have already been completed. However, additional installation of exhaust gas treatment systems is required. These installations are in accordance with environmental protection requirements from Apple and must be licensed by local authorities.

The Fukang Technology factory project, located in Quang Chau Industrial Park (Bac Giang), has a total investment of more than 12.5 trillion VND and received its initial investment registration certificate in January 2021. The factory is capable of assembling and manufacturing approximately 16.1 million tablets and laptops annually.

In February, the project received a production license for tablets, laptops, and motherboards. The materials used for manufacturing these products are primarily imported from China, the U.S., Japan, and South Korea, while locally sourced materials from Vietnam include screws and front lenses.

Foxconn first entered the Vietnamese market in 2007 through a project to build a factory in Que Vo Industrial Park, Bac Ninh. To date, Foxconn has established factories in various industrial parks, including Que Vo, Dai Dong - Hoan Son, and VSIP in Bac Ninh; Dinh Tram, Van Trung, and Quang Chau in Bac Giang; and Dong Mai in Quang Ninh.

In June, during a meeting with the Prime Minister, Brand Cheng, CEO of Foxconn Industrial Internet, shared that Foxconn has factories in five provinces in Vietnam, employing 80,000 workers and investing a total of around 4 billion USD.
